Open Day Success!

Open Day Success!

Now that everything has finally settled down from the Middleham Open Day 2015, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the incredible amount of people who turned up in their droves, despite the slightly nasty weather conditions (typically, it has been bright sunshine ever since!!)

It was my first experience of this wonderful event, and I had no idea what to expect, but could hardly believe how many people came through the yard here at Castle Hill Stables. The team here did a fantastic job answering all the questions everyone has for them, and our huge gratitude goes out to them for helping to make it a very special day. It really is a pleasure to see the huge enthusiasm that was held for racing by all that attended, a real positive for the future of the sport.

The horses all behaved beautifully, particularly¬†Bounty’s Spirit¬†(Bahamian Bounty X Scarlet Buttons) who couldn’t get enough of the attention! She proved a real star, especially with some of the smaller kids who came to see us. We have been delighted to recieve some stunning photographs since from various people, and they did a fantastic job of catching the character of our cheekier horses (I have put some photos in the Gallery, so please go check this out). Initiatives like the Open Day do our sport so much good, allowing people to come and have a backstage pass to see what goes on behind the scenes, and hopefully we will see everyone back next year.

We have been relatively quiet on the runners front, but look to have a few runners this week. Camanche Grey (Camacho X Sense Of Greeting) may be heading for Catterick on Wednesday, where he will line up for a 5 furlong Apprentice Handicap, with Jack Garrity taking the ride for owner Lee Ashmore. He has been in good form at home recently, and Andy Elliott was very pleased with him when he came up to work him last week, so fingers are crossed that he can show himself up well.

We may also be having a busy Saturday at Newcastle, so keep your eyes peeled for entries, though I am not sure we can quite compete with the excitement of the Grand National!! We wish the best of luck to everyone who has a runner in the big race.

In other news, we have been absolutely thrilled with our latest arrival Starleyf (Kheleyf X Satin Braid). Our third horse from the wonderful Trojan Horse Partnership, she travelled up beautifully, arriving here on April Fools Day. She settled in immediately and looks an absolute picture – many thanks to Salcey Forest Stud who look to have done a wonderful job with her condition. JJ stepped up to the plate and volunteered to be the first one on her back on Monday – sometimes a slight worry as you can never be quite sure how they will react! She was, however, a A* student and took to the whole process like a duck to water, looking to really enjoy her job. She seems a lovely, intelligent filly to work with and we are really looking forward to getting this gorgeous 2 year old up on the Moor.

Many thanks
