4th place for The Bull on Wolverhampton evening card

After a quiet start to October The Bull and Prancing Oscar make the journey to Wolverhampton on Friday the 12th for an evening card on their all-weather track. Andrew Mullen is in the saddle for both horses tonight. The Bull, who has shown improved form of late, contests a 6 furlong race, the opening race on the card, and is ridden just behind the leaders for much of the race. Inside the final furlong The Bull moves into 4th place but can only run on at one pace and finishes 4th of the 13 runners at 20/1.

Later in the evening Prancing Oscar, running in a 1 mile 1/2 furlong handicap, weakens inside the final furlong to finish 9th of the 11 runners.

2nd place for Lord Caprio at Sedgefield on his return to juvenile hurdles

Our next runner is on 21st October when Lord Caprio takes in a Juvenile Hurdle race at Sedgefield. A winner and a third in 2 juvenile hurdles in the summer Lord Caprio’s last run was a second place on the Flat a month ago but today he reverts to the jumping game and is ridden, as usual, by Richie McLernon. Just 5 runners contest the race and Richie has Lord Caprio nicely positioned in 3rd place for much of the race before moving into second before the home turn. Once in the straight and with 2 hurdles to jump Lord Caprio chases the leader but cannot get to his rival, a well-regarded odds-on favourite, but Lord Caprio keeps on to finish in 2nd place, beaten 6 lengths, with the remaining runners well adrift.

Blazing Dreams with a 3rd place is best of our 4 two year old runners at Newcastle

Back to the Flat and on 24th October Ben takes no less than 4 horses, all 2 year olds, to the evening meeting at Newcastle. All 4 horses are ridden tonight by Graham Lee. First away is Blazing Dreams in Division 1 of a 7 furlong nursery handicap. This is Blazing Dreams 8th start of the season with a 4th place, also at Newcastle 2 races ago, being his best performance to date. Drawn on the outside of the 10 runners Graham keeps Blazing Dreams towards the rear in the early stages but with 2 furlongs to go begins to make his move. Entering the final furlong Blazing Dreams goes into 4th place but he can only run on at one pace and cannot get to the leaders although he does take 3rd place close to the line, an improvement on his previous runs.

Our other 3 runners contest the following 3 races, Lady Shanawell finishes 7th in Division 2 of the same race, Champagne On Rocks takes 6th place in a 5 furlong nursery, but mention should be made of Calevade, a lovely grey colt by Gregorian, who is having his first ever race in a 1 mile Novice Auction Stakes and who equips himself well until weakening 2 furlongs out but then runs on again in the final half furlong. The experience will not be lost on this promising 2 year old.
