March 2016

March runners

Again not many runners this month, but roll on the start of the Flat Turf season !

In the final week or so of March Ben runs Freeze A Crowd in a 6 furlong handicap at Southwell on March 23rd. Freeze A Crowd, under Joey Haynes, runs a decent race to finish 4th of the 8 runners, beaten around 2 lengths.

On the final day of the month Ben takes Camanche Grey and Whisky Marmalade to Wolverhampton. Camanche Grey is in a 5 furlong handicap and is fancied to run well but unfortunately is slowly out of the stalls and then suffers interference in running, eventually finishing 7th, though still only beaten 3 lengths  —  compensation surely awaits ! Later in the afternoon Whisky Marmalade contests a mile and a half handicap, the same course and distance the filly was successful over in January. Ridden again by Raul Da Silva Whisky Marmalade chases the leaders turning into the straight and moves into the lead over a furlong out. She is, however, unable to quicken inside the final furlong and has to settle for 6th place, but again only 2 and a half lengths behind the winner.

Following these Wolverhampton races Ben and Alice head for an even more important date  —  their wedding !  More of this will no doubt feature on our website on their return next week but in the meantime I’m sure everyone associated with our stable will send their congratulations and very best wishes to Alice and Ben !

Good Friday, 25th March

Many thanks to everyone who came along to Castle Hill Stables on Good Friday morning.  Although the traditional Middleham Stables Open Day was not held this Good Friday Ben did open our stables to the public and we were rewarded with an excellent turn out and many visitors came along to see our stables and view our horses, both our Flat horses ready for the 2016 Flat campaign as well as those we shall be continuing to run over the Jumps. A number of shares in our 2 year olds were also sold on Good Friday, and some shares in these horses are still available if you wish to contact Ben.

The weather was excellent on Friday morning and we hope everyone who came along to our stable enjoyed themselves and we look forward to seeing you all again at Middleham’s next Open Day. Thank you once again.
