Debut win for Camanche Grey in race of firsts at Warwick
Ben eyes a winning opportunity as he sends Camanche Grey to Warwick to contest a 5 furlong maiden race on 4th July.
Graham Lee takes the ride and has Camanche Grey, a 3 year old grey gelding by Camacho, up with the leaders from the start of the race. Graham gives the horse a lovely positive ride and turning into the straight with 2 furlongs to race Camanche Grey takes a clear lead and runs on well to record a 3/4 length victory.
This is a first win for owner Lee Ashmore and we hope it will be the first of many successes for Lee’s red and white striped colours at Castle Hill Stables. As well as being Camanche Grey’sdebut win, from just 6 starts, and his owners first success, it is also Ben’s first runner at Warwick, and thus his first winner at the Midlands track, and additionally jockey Graham Lee’s first winner for Ben. The success continues the tremendous form of Ben’s horses with 6 wins and a third place from his last 7 runners on the Flat.
Fugleman sold at Newmarket’s Tattersalls July Sales
Fugleman who won his only start for Ben when winning at Carlisle on 16th June has been sold at the Newmarket Tattersalls July Sales. The son of Fast Company looked an exciting prospect when carrying Middleham Park Racing’s colours to a length and three quarters success at Carlisle has been sold for 75,000 guineas and will continue his racing career in Qatar.
Another good run from Operateur taking 3rd place in hurdle race at Uttoxeter
After his incredible June when he won 4 races on the Flat at Hamilton Operateur resumes his hurdles career running in a Novices’ handicap over 2 miles at Uttoxeter on July 25th.
Ridden by our own conditional jockey Ryan D Clark who claims a useful 10 lb allowanceOperateur races in midfield until making headway 4 furlongs out. Although Operateur stays on well and takes third place inside the final furlong he cannot quite get to the leaders. Nevertheless Operateur gives a good exhibition of jumping and 3rd place in a field of 15 runners represents a very satisfactory run for Alison Royston’s 6 year old back over hurdles.
Abbotsfield returns to form with a close 3rd place at Redcar
For her first race for over 6 months Ben takes Abbotsfield to Redcar to contest a 7 furlong maiden race. Partnered by 5lb claimer Kevin Stott ( 3 wins and a 3rd in 4 races for Ben )Abbotsfield is prominent throughout the race and leads just over 2 furlongs out until being headed a furlong from home, eventually finishing a close third, beaten under a length. This is a pleasing return to form for the 4 year old who carries the colours of Middleham Park Racing and is having only her 5th race.
This is certainly Abbotsfield’s best run since finishing second on her debut at Newcastle in September 2013 and the third place means Kevin has yet to finish out of the frame after 5 races for Ben.
