Hello and Welcome!

Hello and Welcome!

Welcome to our new website here at Ben Haslam Racing, where we will keep you up to date on all the latest news, results and runners. Hopefully, the new design is a bit easier to navigate!

We have been having a busy time of it here at Castle Hill Stables, with the flat season fast approaching alongside getting some of the jump horses out and about. The horses are really starting to come into themselves now, with the fillies in particular relishing the odd warmer day. A few of them have just started doing some faster work, and are loving being allowed to step up a gear once again!

We were also very pleased to recieve a new horse from J.P. McManus last week – Knocklong (Milan X Banningham Blaze) is a good looking seven year old gelding over from Ireland. He looks a lovey type, and has taken the move in his stride, looking very calm and relaxed on his first outing to the gallops on the Moor. Although he hasn’t won since 2012, he has some decent runs to his name and should hopefully be able to pick up a few prizes over the coming months.

I am delighted to finally be able to report that, for the same owner, the ever so slightly frustrating Mad For Road (Galileo X Potion) finally consented to enter the winners enclosure at Sedgefield! A big handsome boy, he has started to look really well in the last couple of months, and fingers were crossed that a big run might be in store! Andrew Tinkler was at his very finest, as he wasn’t too keen on the odd patch of deeper going, but he jumped very well  over the 2 mile 1 furlong to eventually claim a good 4 length victory (and another best turned out prize for Lauren!) He followed this up with a fine run in defeat at the same course a couple of weeks later, just running into a well handicapped horse, but hopefully the penny has now dropped and he will be able to find another prize soon.

We have seen a couple of promising runs from Moon Over Rio (Captain Rio X Moonchild) for the Blue Lion Syndicate, who, whilst not yet quite strong enough to trouble the leaders, has delighted her jockeys with her attitude and jumping ability, with Dougie Costello describing her hurdling technique as dynamite! She still has some strengthening up left to do, but it is pleasing to see that she is heading in the right direction.

We were very lucky to have a visit this week from Lynn Douglas and Gary Walker from the Trojan Horse Partnership. New owners here at Castle Hill Stables, their enthusiasm and love for racing is tangible and infectious! They have sent us two lovely unraced three year old fillies this year, Bounty’s Spirit (Bahamian Bounty X Scarlet Buttons) and Spirit Of Arakan (Arakan X Angel Rays,), and the girls were certainly delighted to see them! The two fillies have really got going over the last month and should hopefully not be too far off making their debuts.

Our final piece of exciting news is that Ben and I got engaged last weekend, with him getting down on one knee at the top of Middleham Castle – a secret romantic! Plenty to look forward to, therefore, with a wedding to plan as well as a busy season ahead!

Many thanks

Alice
