Freeze A Crowd and Camanche Grey put in pleasing performances at Wolverhampton

Just a month to the start of the 2016 Flat Turf season and Ben has plenty of lovely horses to look forward to running during the new campaign, including a number of 2 year olds who have been pleasing him throughout the winter months.

February though has been a quiet month on the racing front but there are a couple of promising performances in the final week of the month. On 26th Feb Ben takes 2 horses to the evening meeting at Wolverhampton to contest races on their ( and Europe’s only ! ) Tapeta all-weather track.

First off is Freeze A Crowd who takes in a 6 furlong apprentice handicap, ridden by Hollie Doyle who is apprenticed to the powerful Richard Hannon stable. Hollie holds up Freeze A Crowd in the early stages but chasing the leaders in the final 3 furlongs the 3 year old filly meets interference twice, and after being switched right stays on inside the final furlong to take 5th place, beaten just over two and a half lengths in what must be judged an unlucky run.

Our second runner, one hour later, is Camanche Grey who runs in a 5 furlong handicap partnered by Joe Fanning. Joe holds the 5 year old grey up, but is ridden from halfway and runs on well inside the final furlong, finishing a never nearer 4th, beaten just under three and a half lengths. This is probably Camanche Grey’s best run since winning at Thirsk last July.

Two creditable performances on the night from our runners and not long now until the Turf season and hopefully a little warmer weather on the backs of our horses, and everyone else !
